The Alamo Drafthouse Austin director of programming for Austin and San Antonio R.J. LaForce, the Austin Asian American Film Festival programming director Jenny Nulf, and the Austin Film Festival Senior Program Director Casey Baron joined Lights Camera Austin in mid-December for a Decade in Film Roundtable Discussion. We shared our favorite films of the 2010s and discussed some of the issues that defined film and Hollywood this past decade, including the Me Too Movement, the #OscarsSoWhite social media campaign of 2016, the rise of such streaming services as Netflix and Amazon Prime, Disney’s domination at the box office thanks to its purchase of Marvel as well the impact of the Mouse House's 2019 acquisition of Fox, and the emergence of arthouse distributors A24 and Neon.
Note: Part 1 finds us sharing our favorites films, performances, directors, newcomers, and experiences of the 2010s. Part 2 focuses on discussion of the major film issues of the 2010s.
