Directed by Ivete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan, the documentary short The Passing follows Austin’s “visiting vet” Dr. Michael Mullen as he undertake house calls and prepares to euthanize an elderly dog named Fiona. The Passing screens during the SXSW Film & TV Festival as part of the Texas Short Competition at 5:45 p.m. March 8 at the Rollins Theatre at The Long Center and at 11 a.m. March 11 at the Rollins Theatre at The Long Center. Former Austin-based filmmakers Ivete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan previously directed the documentaries The Naked Gardens, Pahokee, and One Big Misunderstanding as well as the shorts Happiness is a Journey, Skip Day, Roadside Attraction, and The Send-Off. They are currently writing a scripted version of The Passing and filming a documentary about the Ron DeSantis-ization of the New College of Florida, the public liberal arts college in Sarasota.
