Paramount Summer Classic Film Series
The Paramount Summer Classic Film Series begins May 24 with Casablanca and closes Sept. 2 with Gone with the Wind, as per series tradition. The opening weekend celebrates Memorial Day with screenings of Apocalypse Now Redux, Shoulder Arms, Dr. Strangelove, Doctor Zhivago, and The Great Escape. The series will celebrate the films of David Bowie, the Coen Brothers, Tom Hanks, and Alfred Hitchcock and include programs devoted to vaudeville, musicals, screwball comedy, thrillers, science fiction, horror, westerns, and acclaimed foreign-language films. Iron & Wine singer-songwriter Sam Beam makes his annual stop at the Paramount with a July 16 screening of William Friedkin’s The Wages of Fear remake Sorcerer. The Paramount’s 70mm Week comprises of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Lawrence of Arabia. As a precursor to the launch of its Summer Classic Film Series, the Paramount Theatre will host its annual Bridesmaid Pub Run and Screening on May 23.
